The 1999 movie, the Matrix shows many differences and some similarities between the lives of Neo and Jesus Christ, according to the Gospel of Matthew. Two differences are the way they were given birth, and the fact that neo was a trained warrior while Jesus was sent by God naturally. Two similarities being that they both, had female supporters along their way, death for others, and resurrected from the dead.
Neo, who lived in the dream world, was given birth by a computer software program in the matrix. An article stated that, “the lid of the egg opens; he raises his head, and covered in thick clear liquid and he look around.” From this we can see his birth was difficult and not normal from what we are used to seeing. It also states that “a series of cords pop from his spine and a long metal tip is pulled from the back of his skull.”(C.G.Jung 5) This confirms the fact that his birth was very artificial, awkward, and unique. He being reborn will give him knowledge, realization and developing new transformation and believing that is the “One” to bring the human race in the real world.
Having an angel of God sent to you with the news that your wife is carrying the savior who will save humanity from their sins. Gabriel one of the angels from heaven sent down to Joseph in his dream, saying, “Joseph do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.”(Matthew 1 vs. 20) This quote illustrates that Joseph was confuse due to the fact that he’s not married to Mary by which no mean he had no understanding how she was pregnant and one the angel come and help him understand that there is no need for Joseph about his wife being pregnant. God loved joseph and wanted him to understand that the baby is by the Holy Spirit and everything was going to be fine. He needed to understand the child his wife carrying will help save his people from their sins. Knowing all the process of what is happening to his wife all he can do is wait for her to bear her son with that being said, “then Joseph, being aroused from his sleep did as the angel of the lord commanded him and took to him his wife. And did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn son and he called his named Jesus”. (Matthew 2 vs. 24-25) meaning that the son of Mary Jesus Christ has been born and Joseph accepted it took him as his own son and savior of the world.
After the process of his rebirth into the matrix it was time for Neo to get trained. He’s put in a chair where he would learn jiujutsu, the stage direction describe “Neo’s body spasms and relaxes as his eyes open, breath hissing from his lips. He looks like he just had an orgasm. He looks at Morpheus.” The hero announces: “This is incredible I know kung Fu.”(wachoswski 55) which means that he is hooked in a machine were it takes total control of his body and mind in order for him to fully develop the knowledge to learning kung Fu and be well trained despite the fact in all his trainings he will be battling Morpheus,” Morpheus attacks him and it is like nothing we seen feet and fists are everywhere taking neo apart neo falls. Neo stand speed blows like a drum. Neo’s face shed its mask calm he wants to beat Morpheus bad. Finally on the side a single blow cut Morpheus on the side of the head knocking his glasses off.”(Wachoswski 56-58) this shows that his training was a success even at the beginning but gains him confident to defeat Morpheus while the crew was in awe and begin to believe he is the one.
Jesus Christ was not trained warrior, his naturally sent by his father to save his people from their sins. In the beginning Jesus Christ father knew his son was the chosen one in other word he had already develop knowledge and understand the world around him by the Holy Spirit while he was being conceived and with faith. Jesus Christ prays to his father to protect him in everything that he does. Neo was trained by a computer who taught him everything in order to have understanding and realization in being the chosen one.
In the matrix we see Trinity as a female supporter to neo throughout various events. When Neo was finding the agents, she motivated him by saying “hurry neo you’re right here. I’m holding you, neo. I’m not letting you go do you hear me I won’t let you go.”(Wachoswski 126) this means that she’s supporting and giving him strength, and knowledge by saying she believes he’s the one and she will not let go of him till he is okay.
Two women Mary Magdalene and another Mary was strong believer and a supporter in Christ Jesus an example is both follow Jesus and tried to help him while being crucified. They stood by his tomb praying that he is alive and well, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came by the tomb as an angel of God descended from heaven saying “do not be afraid for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified he has risen go rejoice he is risen and well.” (Matthew 28 vs. 4-7) this proves that his female supporters were there for him from start to finish by visiting his tomb, praying to his father that their save Jesus Christ is alive.
Sacrificing your life for others is an extremely a tough decision. Throughout the matrix we see how neo would sacrifice his own life to save Morpheus and the human race, “they believe in you neo. And no one, not even I can convince him otherwise. He believes it so blindly that he’s risking his life to save yours.” Says the oracle, basically this mean that if neo did not start to believe the fact he’s the one, then his lack of faith will destroy him. After this meeting Neo make the ultimate decision to risk his own life , in order to save the human race from living in the dream world, despite it all he went back in the matrix where he will be prepared and given the confidence to face the bad guys.
Jesus Christ was willing to save his own life to save his people in humanity. The people was living a false life and was blinded from knowing the truth, he wanted to take them out of the untrue world and bring them to the real world where the truth is and to obey him and his laws. “Just as the son of man did not come to be served, but to served and give his life away for many.”(Matthew 20 vs. 28) it describing that he’s the one who will help save them from their sins and he’s ready to serve them by taking them out of their wickedness.
Neo rose from the dead, as battling agent smith in the subway, neo understanding of the fact that he’s the one came in play when he dodging bullets, moving his body in ways he never imagined. As these two battle in the tracks, agent smith told neo “Mr. Anderson do you hear the sound of your death.” Dramatically neo responds, “My name is neo” with that being said both neo and agent smith ended in the tracks as ne be choked by agent smith the sound if the train was getting closer,” do you hear that Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability.” Means that ne o was going to be killed! Neo begins to realize his transformation that he’s the actual savior for the human race. Just thinking his mission is over he was followed by agent smith and two others, as he turn he saw agent smith where he fired couple of shots guns in neo chests. Neo fell to the ground dead, “no-no-no! Neo you’re not dead! You can’t be.”(Wachoswski 126) after three minutes he’s brought to life by a kiss and words of encouragements from trinity. Neo rise back on his feet where agent smith begin to fire shots repeatedly suddenly neo puts up his hand and stop the bullets from entering his body,” he steps out of the phone booth and start walking, wearing a long black coat dark glasses neo takes off flying up through the air,” this confirms that neo has risen from the dead and he became more powerful than ever and ready to take on anything or any agents that comes he’s way.
Lastly we begin to witness Jesus Christ in battle with the soldiers who take him away, “then the soldiers took him away in the praetorian where they gathered around him, they place a crown in his head, they mock him about being the son of God if he was he will be saved by his father, the spit on him and was struck in the head.”(Matthew 27:27-28) meaning he’s being torture by those who did not believe he’s the son of God and that he’s not the chosen one. After hours of beating there were voices that he has been crucified. After three days has been called by his father Jesus is risen from the dead .the son of man was delivered from handful of sinners, after being resurrected back from the dead “Jesus Christ teach them and commanded them all authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth, the flew back up in the midst of the air.” We see that Jesus has risen from death and that he took total control of his people that he’s the chosen one and have power of both heaven and earth.
